Topping off a week of reintroduction to the US, Dad and I took a red-eye flight from Denver to Raleigh today; Mom took a separate flight to Rochester, MN to help with Carter as Jennifer prepares to have her baby. I went from feeling in the dark in Italy, to feeling in the dark with my own Vietnamese-speaking family, to going to the most confounding place of all, the American southeast.
Compared to the dryness of Denver, stepping out of the airport in Raleigh was seriously like walking into a sauna. CO spoiled me. Then the drive home felt strange because the area is changing so rapidly that even in one year's time I noticed many new buildings, roads, and developments popping up (woohoo!). Even here in our old house, my parents had made so many renovations that most of the rooms are at least a bit different. At least the house still has that old familiar smell that I remember from when we first moved in.
