Piazza Dante--the trash, old couples arm-in-arm, and graffiti give it a certain charm

Port'Alba with its used-book stalls

Painting pieces for the nativities

More pastries! The biscotti amarena (thick sour-cherry-filled cookies in the middle) were our favorite :o)

Looks homey

Narrow streets

Lunch: a folded-up margherita pizza. EVERYONE was walking around eating these.

Intestines and tripe hanging by hooks :o(

The very flavorful Spanish Quarter

Time for tiny coffees at the Galleria Umberto

Castel Nuovo

The lift to our hostel required 5 cents. Not a bad idea, actually.

Piazza del Plebiscito

Dinner at the best back-alley trattoria in town: 10euro (per person) for primi, secondi, contorni, pane, sparkling water, and all the vino we could drink!

For primi we had zuppa di fagioli (bean soup) and penne alla casareccia con salsiccia (pasta with sausage).

Secondi: bistecca (beefsteak) and swordfish with contorni of eggplant and mushrooms

I love how they are smoking in the kitchen!

Serious anti-theft devise

Back at the hostel, making lentils the night before for
our lunch on the train in the morning.

The less-than-fast train. Luckily we had the cabin to ourselves!
