Beach bums

On Monday Mom and Dad took Seth and me out for an over-night trip to their condo by the beach (Topsail Island, NC). In the afternoon Seth and I took a drive out to the local non-profit sea turtle sanctuary to see a half-dozen injured turtles. It's awful seeing the poor creatures who were hit by boats--their shells have to be stapled in place with large metal plates and it takes years for them to grow back.

We eventually did make it out to the beach, but waited for the sun to go down a bit to avoid baking in the extremely hot and intense sun.

A roped-off sea turtle nest, ready to hatch any night! The big turtle wearing a Yankees cap can lead them to the water.

One of the numerous, cheesy, beachy shops.

It's always nice to go to the beach. It's slower paced, easy-going, and there is always lots to offer--ice cream shops at every corner, several reliable coffee shops, flocks of pelicans, long stretches of beautiful coastline, fleshy pink bodies to watch, and heaps of sharks' teeth to dig up. Too bad there is always just too much sand ;o)
